Privacy
Gleanling is a place for children to tell their stories and keep them. We keep as little as we can, we never sell anything, and your family stays in charge of everything.
The short version
- We keep only the parent’s email, each child’s first name, and what your children make.
- We never record your child’s voice. Listening happens on the device and turns speech straight into words.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics companies, no public profiles, and no social features.
- You can delete any single story, or your whole account, at any time.
What we keep
For the parent: your email address and password, so you can sign in. Your password is stored securely, and we can never see it.
Purchases: a record of which plan or pack you bought and when, checked with Apple, so we know what your family can use. Apple handles payment, and we never see your card details.
For each child: a first name for their shelf. We don’t ask for birthdays, photos, locations or anything else about your child.
What children make: their exact words when they tell Gleanling something, stories and storybooks made from those words, sentences they star, words they invent and what those words mean, and the pictures and narration made for their books.
Reports: if a grown-up reports a story or picture Gleanling made, we keep a note of which one and anything they write, so we can look into it. The report keeps no copy, so deleting the story still removes it.
Children don’t have their own accounts. Everything belongs to the parent’s account.
What we never keep
We never record or store your child’s voice. When a child talks to Gleanling, the speech is turned into words right on the device, and no audio is saved or sent anywhere.
We don’t collect location, contacts, photos, advertising IDs or browsing activity, and we don’t track anyone across other apps or websites.
Without an account
If no one is signed in, what a child makes is saved only on that device, and nothing is sent to us. Grown-ups can clear it at any time.
How we use it
Only to run Gleanling for your family: to keep your children’s things safe, show them on their shelf, shape their words into stories, make pictures and read their books aloud.
We never sell or rent anything, never use it for advertising, and never share it with anyone except the services below that help Gleanling work.
Services that help Gleanling work
A few trusted companies help run Gleanling. They only receive what they need to do their job, and only to do it for us:
- Supabase stores accounts and your family’s things securely, in the United States.
- Apple turns speech into words on the device, and handles subscriptions and payments. We never see your payment details.
- Google turns speech into words on the device on Android phones and tablets. No audio is sent to Google or to us.
- Story, picture and voice services receive the words of a story only when your child asks Gleanling to shape it, make a picture or read it aloud. They don’t receive names or account details, and we choose services that don’t use your family’s stories to train their systems.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Each family’s things are locked so that only that family’s account can see them.
Keeping and deleting
We keep your family’s things until you delete them.
In Grown-ups you can delete any single story, memory, starred sentence or word; remove a child and everything on their shelf; or delete your whole account. Deleting removes it from our database for good.
You can also download everything at any time in Grown-ups: every child’s stories in their own words, storybooks and pictures, starred sentences, made-up words and readings, in one file that opens in any web browser. If you stop subscribing, nothing is deleted; your family’s shelf stays. Please download everything before deleting your account.
Children's privacy
Gleanling is made for children, with parents in charge. Only a parent can create an account, add a child, make purchases or change settings, and those areas sit behind a grown-up check. A parent can review or delete their child’s things at any time in Grown-ups, or by writing to us.
Changes
If we change how we look after your family’s things, we’ll update this page and its date, and we’ll let parents know about anything important before it takes effect.
